Creating A New Life For My Family of Two

Sharing where I’m at right now and where I plan to be.

So, this week I started writing out my goals for the foreseeable future and I’ve realized that there are a lot of things that I’d like to accomplish by the end of this year. It may seem like an odd time to start working on this, but there’s no time like the present!

Life Changes

Having a 6-month-old at home now has started putting things into perspective and shining a light on some habits, lifestyle and career choices that I would like to change. The point guiding these changes is raising my son on my own. One income, 100% of the responsibility and one person being both mother and father to a little boy who deserves the best life and all the love in the world.

Health and Wellness

A little over three months ago, I took my first steps towards bettering myself in order to show up for my son as the best possible version of me. I started eating better again, trying to eat only home-cooked meals except for the occasional indulgence or emergency. I have found over the years that sticking to a low-histamine diet significantly reduces inflammation and bloating, increasing my energy and positive mindset. It’s certainly not easy; gluten and dairy free, low sodium and low histamine restrict me from eating even a variety of seemingly healthy foods. But having a “cheat day” makes me feel absolutely horrendous and it’s so not worth it.

I workout at the gym four to five days a week and have dropped from a little over 210 lbs, my weight when I gave birth, to 165 lbs which is lighter than I was when I got pregnant last year. Jack and I go for at least one walk every day as well to get some cardio in. Thankfully my neighbourhood isn’t flat so I can get some nice incline walking in as well. I am so proud of myself for achieving that already and am even more motivated to keep working towards my fitness goals. This is the first time in my life that I’ve been consistent with working out and the hard work and effort is already paying off. Can’t wait to see how I look and feel one year postpartum!

Education and Career

I’ve also enrolled myself in a couple of online courses at the University of Guelph as part of their Horticulture Diploma in the School of Continuing Studies. My goal is to start my own business with the knowledge I learn from completing this program as well as the life experience I have gained working in various sectors over the past 17 years. More information on this venture to come.
